I think that this is the last price range where you can still buy some decent grill.
At this kind of price you can’t expect miracles such as large capacity, functionality, quality of workmanship and most importantly, durability.
You need to understand that in most cases a gas grill below 200 dollars is a temporary solution for up to several seasons (the exceptions are small portable models).
Despite that, out of the entire offer on the market I was able to create a list for you of the best gas grills under $200.
If you want quality and durability then check out small grills where the manufacturer really had the ability to take care of these aspects while staying in this price range.
The 3 Best Gas Grills under $200 Reviewed
1. Best Overall - Weber Q1200
I know that it slightly exceeds the price specified, but it’s not that much so I put it in this guide.
Weber Q1200 is a portable gas grill created mostly for those who cook away from home. However, it can just as well be used as a small stationary grill.
It is possible to buy a special stand separately (q portable cart) that makes the comfort of cooking not that much different from a regular grill. It is a little pricey so if you have a limited budget now then I suggest thinking about it in the future.
It has 189 square inches of the main cooking area.
It has one very strong burner and high quality, solid grill grates that make the results of cooking really brilliant.
I really have to commend the type of construction that makes it very easy to transport. At the same time, I appreciate the very high quality of workmanship, which means great durability.
The Q series has already been available for many years now, so all these aspects have been confirmed over the time by plenty of people, which is proven by the large number of great reviews.
It is one of the most versatile grills on the market.
It is also one of the few options for this kind of money that I can proudly recommend without worrying about quality.
I know that it is not a stationary grill, but at this kind of price you won’t buy anything better in terms of quality. It’s a good idea to buy a stand later, which will make the convenience of cooking like that of a normal grill.
2. Runner Up - Char-Broil Classic 280
It is possibly the cheapest gas grill on the market that can still be recommended. You should keep several important things in mind, though.
Above all, it is a very cheap grill made of poor quality materials. It means that it’s not a durable grill and only a temporary investment for a short time.
When buying this grill, you accept that it won’t be phenomenal, being simply “good” for some time. Considering such low price, I believe that you won’t expect miracles and will understand that.
It has 280 square inches of cooking area – that’s enough for a small family.
Char-Broil Classic 280 has two burners the efficiency of which is simply good – there is not much to complain here.
It has two pretty spacious side shelves where you will find a lot of work space.
Sadly, the entirety of the construction doesn’t look the best in terms of quality and durability, which should be expected at this kind of price. It’s a very simple and small-sized grill the purpose of which is being able to prepare a simple meal.
I believe that it’s a good suggestion for those who cook very rarely. With someone like that, it should last for much longer without major problems.
Sadly, I don’t recommend it if you cook a whole lot and very often. Unless you accept poor durability of this grill and the fact that it will last very short in such conditions (likely 1-2 seasons).
If you take grilling seriously and often cook on a grill then it will be really better to save more money (at least 300 dollars) and buy a small yet solid grill that will withstand a lot.
3. Best Griddle - Blackstone Griddle 17"
Have you ever had a chance to try cooking on an outdoor gas griddle? I know that it’s not a typical grill, but I believe that it’s a good alternative to regular grilling.
Griddle grilling gives plenty of new possibilities, makes it possible to prepare a more diverse meal. The flat surface allows to fry most meats and very finely sliced food or even fry pancakes or eggs.
Blackstone Griddle 17” is a great way to start your journey with this type of cooking.
First and foremost, it is a very cheap device compared to all the other gas grills. Another advantage of this particular model is the quality of workmanship and mobility.
This grill was designed mainly for those who travel or those who have a very limited space in their backyard.
It actually offers a lot of space, whole 260 square inches of cooking area.
It only has one burner that generates somewhat uneven heat, but it is not a problem in this type of grill.
The entirety of the construction is very simple, which makes the griddle very durable and safe during transport.
You might be wondering what happens to the grease and food juices during cooking.
The griddle has a special hole in the plate that all the grease goes through to a special container. The access to the container in this case is on the front. When you’re done cooking, you just have to remove the drawer and empty it – easy, fast and effective.
Sadly, you won’t get sear marks on the food’s surface with this type of grill. But its other advantages are really worth checking out, especially that it costs so little compared to for example standard propane grills.
What to Look for in a Gas Grills under $200
Size – I know that the entire offer in this price range is very small grills. The difference between them, however, is still big enough to make choosing difficult. If you only cook for yourself then a good solution might be buying a small, portable grill.
Features – Forget about gadgets in the basic versions for this kind of money. You may check out, however, whether a particular manufacturer’s offer includes some separately sold accessories that you will buy further down the road.
Mobility – You want the greatest mobility available? Just buy a dedicated portable grill. For this kind of money there’s a very huge choice of this type of grills.
Durability and Warranty – When it comes to typical portable grills then at this price you can buy truly solid models. As for small stationary grills below $200, however, the things looks completely different (for worse). No matter what you choose, check out what kind of warranty is offered by the manufacturer and what exactly it covers.
